This small little city next to the sea, worth going for 1-2 days. Only 30-50 mins from Sapporo. This place has a lot of Chinese and Japanese tourists visiting, if you want a place to stay for the night, I highly recommend Otaru Tap Room - Craft Beer & Hostel, you will be able to meet people at night times at the bar while having a nice place to sleep and close to most things. Walk around the city with many of the shops offering free tasters so go to all the places! My favourite place was this sushi place.
One of the best sushi places I ever went too, not only was all the seafood fresh, the flavours were out of this world. It was succulent, delicious, and mouth-watering. I had the 12-set sushi which included shrimp, brain of shrimp, sea urchin, fish roe, sashimi, scallop, 3 different kinds of tuna and 3 seasonal specialities. You get to see it all cooked right in front of you, there are limited spots, so either go early or get a reservation. For the set of 12 with some sake you are looking at ¥6000. So not the cheapest thing in the world but damn if it was not part of my best ever meals. There are a lot of sushi places in this area, so go try them and I bet you the quality will the same might even get it cheaper.

END NOTE OF JAPAN
That is all I have to say about Japan, what a wonderful country with so many different foods, flavours, temples, mountains and so much more. I hope you enjoyed all the selections of food, tourist attractions and the rest. There is so much more to explore, all these recommendations might not be suitable for you, so go find what you enjoy eating and explore to your hearts content.
Do not be afraid to try stuff out of the ordinary, there may be places you think are interesting but the whole menu is in Japanese. Well, why not give that a try. There will be many local places with just Japanese characters and no English menu.
You can go to a cinema and see a movie (they have some movies in English). See the exciting and funny adverts as well as the fact that Japanese people do not leave until the whole movie is over (oops spoiler). All comes back to the respect they have for everyone who made the movie.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this guide, I tried to make it as simplistic as possible while revealing the main points. There is so much more I did not get the chance to explore, many had to do with budget and timing. But I hope you get the chance that I did not and enjoy it to the fullest.
Enjoy Japan as the country is one of a kind, especially if you love the culture, the food, and the people, this will only enhance your experience so much more.
